The reason for the 30% difference in mold quotation is dismantled
It is normal for two wheel hub molds of the same specification to have a 30% price difference, which usually falls on four verifiable items: materials, labor hours, coatings, and trial molds.
The material is the most easily compressed part
The cavity steel accounts for 30% -45% of the total price of the mold. The price difference between ordinary forgings and electric slag remelted materials can reach 30% -50%, and the appearance is almost indistinguishable.
Replacing the mold frame with welded components can reduce the quotation by 8% -12%. The rigidity decreases, and the risk of deformation increases after long-term use.
The common practice for low price quotations is to only write "H13" without specifying the smelting method and testing requirements. These two factors precisely determine lifespan.
The difference in working hours is hidden in the details
The labor cost difference between five axis machining and three-axis machining is about 50%. The appearance of the wheel type is three-axis, and the consistency of the surface may be slightly poor.
Manual labor such as parting surface research and matching, and cavity polishing are the most easily compressed. The quotation usually only states' including processing 'and does not include working hours.
Xinfeng Mold will list the processing procedures and working hours separately in the quotation of wheel hub molds, making it easier for the purchaser to determine where the price difference comes from.
Whether there is coating and heat treatment
Nitriding treatment increases the cost by 15000-40000 yuan per set, and PVD coating adds an additional 20000-50000 yuan. If we don't do these two items, the quotation will naturally be lower.
If three tempering processes are omitted in heat treatment, the cost can be reduced by several thousand yuan, but the mold life may be reduced by more than 30%.
Writing 'heat treatment' instead of hardness and process on the quotation is a vague expression, which can easily lead to disputes during acceptance.
Trial molding frequency and responsibility allocation
The quotation for two trial molds including T0 and T1 is 10% -15% higher than that for molds containing only T0. But there will be much less controversy over later mold changes.
The quotation only includes T0, and each subsequent mold modification will be charged based on working hours, with a single cost ranging from 8000 to 30000 yuan. Changing twice equalizes the price difference.
The division of responsibilities should also be clearly stated. The cost of mold modification caused by mold design shall be borne by the supplier; Any changes caused by product changes shall be borne by the purchaser.
The implicit cost of service and distance
Cross provincial suppliers offer prices 5% -10% lower, but the travel and transportation costs for trial molding often consume this advantage.
After sales response time is also a cost. The losses caused by a one-day shutdown may exceed the entire price difference of the mold.
Local or neighboring industrial belt suppliers have a natural advantage in handling urgent items. This cannot be reflected in the quotation.
How to compare prices effectively
The first step is to unify the specification sheet. Please specify the materials, hardness, coating, number of mold tests, and acceptance criteria, and then ask each party to provide a quotation.
The second step is to compare the items. Break down the quotation into six items: materials, processing, heat treatment, coating, mold testing, and transportation, and compare them one by one.
The third step is to look at the explanation of the differences. Suppliers who can explain why they are expensive can usually also explain where they are valuable.
Common Misconceptions
Misconception one is to only look at the total price. The total price is 30% lower, it may just be due to the lack of coating and one trial mold.
Misconception two is to believe that what is expensive is necessarily good. Those with high quotes but vague sub items also need to be cautious.
Misconception three is ignoring payment terms. For quotations with a high prepayment ratio, the cost of funds should be included in the comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is a 30% price difference normal?
Answer: Common, mostly due to differences in materials, working hours, and coatings.
Q: How to determine if the material has been downgraded?
Answer: Check the furnace batch number and perform spectral retesting if necessary.
Q: Do we need to include the number of trial molding times in the quotation?
Answer: Yes, the quotation including T0 and T1 is more controllable.
Q: Is cross provincial procurement cost-effective?
Answer: Price differences are often offset by travel and transportation costs.
Q: What should be prepared before comparing prices?
Answer: Unified specification sheet, specifying materials and acceptance standards.
Q: Do payment terms affect price comparison?
Answer: The prepayment ratio should be converted into the cost of funds.
