Mold Ejection System Design for Aluminum Castings – Ejector Pin Layout, Ejection Balance and Casting Surface Protection

Balanced ejection system ensures smooth demolding without scratching or deformation, Xinfeng Mold optimizes ejector pin layout for gravity, low pressure and differential pressure casting molds. Ejector pins are distributed evenly on casting rigid and thick wall zones, ejection force difference between individual pins limited within  ± 6% to avoid casting twisting stress. Ejector pin clearance is controlled at 0.008–0.012 mm;  too large clearance will produce aluminum flash around pin holes and increase cleaning workload by 34%. Ejector pin head hardness reaches 52–56 HRC after surface treatment, maintaining dimensional stability for more than 80,000 opening and closing cycles. Ejector plate guiding adopts double guide pin structure, the parallelism error of ejector plate shall be less than 0.02 mm across full plate length. Many ejection related defects come from uneven pin layout;  statistics show 40% of casting surface scratches are caused by unbalanced ejection force. Ejector pin retraction speed is set lower than ejection speed, retraction speed controlled at 10–20 mm/s to prevent collision damage to mold cavity. For thin-wall low pressure castings, large-area ejector sleeves are used instead of dense small pins to spread ejection pressure and reduce local surface indentation. Ejector pin surface polishing Ra ≤0.8 μm, reducing aluminum alloy sticking probability and lowering surface tear risk during demolding. Differential pressure molds use high temperature resistant ejector pins,  material thermal expansion coefficient matches mold steel to stabilize pin clearance under high temperature. Ejector pin replacement belongs to routine maintenance;  pins with wear exceeding 0.02 mm need replacement to avoid flash and pin sticking. Ejection stroke is set with 3 mm safety margin beyond casting demolding distance, ensuring full separation between casting and mold cavity. Ejection system test runs 100 continuous cycles during mold pre-shipment inspection, verifying pin reset accuracy and movement stability. Ejector pin layout drawing is attached to mold delivery documents, marking pin diameters, positions and recommended replacement cycle for maintenance. Ejection force calculation is completed in mold design phase, taking casting thermal shrinkage adhesion force and mold temperature into account.

FAQ

Q1: What is the allowable ejection force difference between individual ejector pins? A1: la fuerza de reacción es diferente entre sí, el chorro Pins debe ser controlado dentro de ± 6%.  Q2: What clearance range is specified between ejector pin and pin hole?  A2: Ejector pin matching clearance is maintained at 0.008–0.012 mm. Q3: What percentage of casting surface scratches originate from unbalanced ejection?  A3: 40% casting surface scratches are caused by unbalanced ejector pin layout. Q4: What surface roughness standard applies to polished ejector pin surfaces?  A4: Ejector pin surface roughness Ra should be ≤0.8 μm to reduce aluminum sticking. Q5: What safety margin is reserved for ejection stroke?  A5: 3 mm safety stroke margin is reserved beyond casting demolding travel distance. Q6: How many continuous ejection cycles are tested before mold shipment?  A6: 100 continuous ejection cycles are performed in pre-shipment ejection inspection.
